Who hasn’t watched a YouTube video and said to themselves – if that were me I would never share that embarrassing scene. Well maybe they didn’t share – it might have been a “friend” or stranger that took the offending video.
Will it ever go away? Did everyone at work or school already see it? If you posted it of someone else – did you get their permission? If it causes harm to the reputation of someone else could you be at risk for damages? If you are a business are you giving away trade secrets or valuable knowledge?
If you are trying to be the next YouTube super star by all means post away. But remember there are very few people making good money creating and posting content for the world to see YouTube. Again, most people do not make money putting videos on YouTube.
How YouTube Makes Money
YouTube makes money selling Ads. Businesses buy the ads because people watch YouTube. YouTube wants you to spend your time and effort to create the content it needs to sell ads. It needs huge amounts of content because most of it will not get viewed enough to generate much ad revenue
Making Money on YouTube
If you want YouTube to pay you for the audience that watches your YouTube videos it is a serious business effort, you need to work hard at it.
Leveraging YouTube
On the other hand, if you want to create some awareness about your product or service to gain potential customers that is a very different use case for using YouTube.
Your goal should be to get the viewer to come to your site or contact you directly. But remember YouTube wants that viewer to keep watching more videos and will give them tempting ads so they watch other videos – potentially videos or ads placed directly by your competitors. YouTube can do a great job introducing your potential customers to your competitors.
